NICOS MAKRIDES
Nicos Makrides has a degree (LL.B) from the University of East Anglia and a postgraduate degree (LL.M) in International Commercial and Business Law from the same University.
In 2004, Nicos joined Alecos Markides Law Firm as a trainee advocate and in 2005, he was admitted to the Cyprus Bar as a qualified lawyer.
In 2011, he became a Partner of the Law Firm Markides, Markides & Co and he is currently the Managing Partner of the Firm, heading the Litigation Department.
Since 2005, he is working in high profile cases concerning international fraud and constructive trust matters, fiduciary disputes and other forms of domestic and international commercial disputes.
Nicos appears before First Instance Courts, as well as before the Supreme Court of Cyprus, in civil and criminal cases concerning corporate matters. He also appears before international arbitration tribunals both as part of the expert witness team in Cyprus Law and as part of the legal team of participating litigants.
Between 2013 – 2015, he participated actively in a team of lawyers and international financial institutions and consultants, concerning two recapitalisation processes regarding one of the leading banking institutions of Cyprus. Between 2017 – 2020, Nicos successfully handled, together with other members of the Firm, a high-profile criminal case concerning one of the leading banking institutions of Cyprus.
Since 2012, Nicos is an appointed lecturer and examiner of the Cyprus Legal Council on the topic of Civil Procedure Rules. In 2013, he was appointed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus as member of the working group for territorial issues of the negotiation team for the resolution of the Cyprus Problem. Between 2014 – 2015, Nicos was a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the Natural Gas Public Company Limited.
He speaks fluently Greek and English.
